The BIGGEST Bow Headband (and little cowl!)

Remember that huge Hello-Kitty-esque bow I found to be too chunky for the front of a skirt? (see last post.) Well, I turned it into a headband!

And it doubles as a little cowl!

Bow headbands are a dime a dozen these days, but this bow is likely the largest. It’s so huge, it literally becomes part of the headband.

Headbands are amazing. They’re practical and adorable; two of my favorite adjectives. Plus, you can whip one up in an hour or two with some spare bulky yarn, and you have yourself a cozy cute gift! I’m obsessed. The adorning possibilities – bows, flowers, buttons, lace – are endless!

The pattern is very easy. Enjoy!

Dramatic Chunky Bow

Hello Kitty, anyone?

Materials

  • Super Bulky yarn (I didn’t measure the amount, less than a skein. I used Bernat Softee Chunky).
  • Size 11 straight needles.
  • Tapestry needle.

Pattern

  1. For bow loop, cast on 32 stitches with a 14-inch tail.
  2. Work 14 rows in stockinette stitch. Bind off.
  3. For band, cast on 7 stitches with a 20-inch tail.
  4. Work 11 rows in stockinette stitch. Bind off.
  5. Using the tapestry needle and the 14-inch tail, whipstitch together the back of the bow loop piece of knitting, so that it creates…a loop. Cut and weave in all ends. Then pinch the middle of the bow loop together, preparing it to be wrapped with band like in the picture below;

6. Wrap the band around the bow loop (like in the picture above) and using the 20-inch tail, whipstitch the band around the bow loop, but don’t cut the tail yet. (like in the picture below.)

Now, for the band.

Using the same yarn and needles, cast on 12 stitches. Knit 48 rows. Bind off. Using your tapestry needle, sew each end of the band to each end of the bow, making a loop. Weave in ends, and enjoy!
